Nikon D40 vs Nikon D200

Here is where I’ll collect links to various discussions, comparisons, tests and reviews pitting the Nikon D40 against the D200.

Noise Levels in JPEG Images

Jeff-C pointed out these noise comparison crops embedded in a forum thread. The discussion is in Chinese, but the crops should be reasonably easy enough to draw conclusions from. Due to this reason, he finds that he ends up bringing the D40 with him on trips more frequently than the D200 (source: forum post).

Lionel and Clint Thayer are in agreement that ever since they purchased the D40, their D200 has started gathering dust as they prefer the D40’s form factor and lower high ISO noise (source: forum post #1 | #2).

George Mann, of DPMac.com, even declares the D40 a “low light heavyweight”, outclassing his Nikon D200 when it comes to high ISO photography (source: forum post).
